Describe an object or place.
The rule
An adjective in い directly precedes the noun: おいしい料理. An adjective in な takes な in front of a noun: 静かな部屋. Attention: きれい is an adjective in な.
Examples
おいしい料理です。
It's a delicious dish.
静かな部屋です。
It's a quiet room.
Remember
- い adjectives change shape: 高い → 高くない → 高かった.
- な adjectives take な in front of a noun: 静かな町.
In everyday life
この本は高くないです。
This book is cheap.
静かな町に住んでいます。
I live in a quiet town.
Common mistake
きれい ends with い but belongs to な adjectives: きれいな部屋.
