Mention several activities without listing everything.
The rule
Short past form + り: 読んだり、見たりします. Activities are given as examples; the list is not exhaustive.
Examples
休日は本を読んだり、映画を見たりします。
On my days of rest, I read, I watch movies, among others.
Remember
- Shape passed to た + り; usually end with します.
- The list is illustrative, not necessarily exhaustive.
In everyday life
週末は映画を見たり、本を読んだりします。
On the weekend, I watch movies and read books, among other things.
昨日は掃除したり、料理したりしました。
Yesterday, I cleaned up and cooked.
Common mistake
たり is not used to list a specific chronology: for "I eat then I leave", prefer the shape in て.
